| I am having space problems because of a "real work" project. So I decided to build small parts but not assemble anything. I started with the stabilizer nose ribs. | |||
| Forming blocks and test parts. This was the first time I have done this so I was testing the radius and spring back amount. Also I used a rod to hammer in the flutes. They looked sharper and more neat but I think it was stressing the metal too much. I layed out rib drawing on a CAD program. Dimentions are printed on it for double check. Printed it on self sticking poster paper. Then stuck it to the wood. Draw the metal shape cutout. Then print and peal back small parts of backing. It will stick slightly to metal so you can trace the shape. |
I made a fluting tool. It works very well. I found that if you bend the flange slightly as you squeeze the flutes in it forms the metal better. The tool has flat end radius on the outside rods. The inside one has a very slight taper and a radius on the end. This keeps the rod ends from putting dimples in the flange radius. |
